Little Hooves Romneys

Little Hooves Romneys, a multi-generational farm owned by Kenneth & Charlene Carlisle, previously focused on dairy production, but has transitioned to sheep and crop production over the years.

Farming and livestock production has been Kenny and Charlene’s life for the past 40+ years, so this is a great passion for them!  Their farm practices humane and healthy treatment of sheep based on their own personal code of ethics. During their 40+ years of farming, they’ve learned that environmental changes and the impact of poor management can result in a devastating ecological future. With that in mind, they take preventative measures and do everything possible to keep their carbon footprint small for future generations, while promoting public education in agriculture and encouraging youth participation and mentoring programs.

Family is very important to the Carlisles and they enjoy whenever their children and grandchildren show up to help move sheep or bale the hay. The lamb they offer is the same that their family has enjoyed for many years.

Currently, Little Hooves Romneys, has 150+ heads of Romney breeding ewes, rams and replacement stock. They grow crops and hay on 300 acres and do rotational pasture management as well.  This means that sheep are grass fed on pasture during the summer or homegrown forages in the winter. This way they are fed year-round. They recognize the benefit of growing their own feed. Knowing where the hay was baled, the soybeans harvested, and the corn picked ensures that they are providing the best feed for their animals’ health and yours, the consumer.

Farm Feature: Little Hooves Romneys

Little Hooves raises Registered Romney sheep for livestock breeding sales across the US, at farmers markets, and seasonally at restaurants on their farm located at the Burlington County Agricultural Center. They have established a good rapport with the public with an excellent product supported by many return customers. We’ve been fortunate enough to have Charlene and Kenny with us at the farmers market for the last 18 years.

Little Hooves Romneys is proud to offer retail cuts of lamb for your family. Special orders should be made in advance, but most cuts are always available.  Eggs from their cage-free chickens are also available! They also offer queen size wool blankets, machine washable pelts, raw fleece and yarn, all made from their sheep!
