A Look Back at the Market’s Past
A Journey of our Growth!
From 2007 to 2024
As we prepare for our 18th season of the Burlington County Farmers Market, it’s fun to look back on our early years when we a very small market – all outside on the cement pad with only 18 vendors. We didn’t even think of using the big barn or the winding pathways to the farmhouse!
This ‘wee’ farmers market sometimes had more vendors than customers on any given Saturday.
Now with approximately 60 farms and food makers and thousands of customers coming through each Saturday, it continues to be a fabulous ride. Farms such as Little Hooves Romneys, James Durr Wholesale Florist, Windy Farm Alpacas, Jersey Jerry Broomsquire and Cranberry Hall Farm have been with us since the beginning of time and have really been the cornerstone of the market that help us grow and thrive each year. We thank them for sticking with us!
From the very beginning it’s been all about giving farmers the opportunity to connect directly to the public, and giving the community the opportunity to know where their food comes from.
Witnessing local folks come together each Saturday morning over coffee and their favorite nosh as they make the market part of their Saturday morning routine, has been remarkable to watch. Many families meet at the market to picnic under the shade trees and listen to the live music as they totally take in all the bustle of the market and the beautiful Ag Center grounds and farm.
During this wintery part of the year, our time is filled with planning, more planning, and then planning again to ensure our Pre-Season market dates (the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in March and April), and our Opening Day on May 11th are the best they can be. We are planning special themed days that give homage to our amazing Jersey produce, while thanking YOU for supporting the market’s dedicated and extremely hard-working local farms, food makers, artists and community groups as they prepare to throw everything they have into another season.
